Taken at the Dolan House on January 30 2013. Blue orb in the dining room; Sumi saw this orb in person, shoot out of the doorway/hallway leading to the bathroom, which is about 2 feet to the left of the edge of this photo. We find this to be an exceptionally credible orb, as once zoomed in you can see the concentric circles within the orb; not to mention that there is no explanation for it being there, none of our equipment has blue lights, and there was nothing in the pictures before and after this one.
Lincoln County Paranormal investigated the No Scum Allowed Saloon on January 26 2013. During our investigation we gathered the following history and paranormal reports from the area.
HISTORY: Local resident and historian, Don Ward, who has studied the area in depth says, “White Oaks was discovered in 1879 (August) by Anglos. In the beginning, it was a tent city for about five years. About 1895, 1,200 people lived here mining gold. There was also a coalmine 1 1/2 miles away. In 1900 the town died out when the railroad chose not to come here but went to Carrizozo instead. In 1912, the town got a rebirth when a power plant was built here. It supplied power to Carrizozo, Nogal and up over into Parsons. But the plant burned down sometime in the 1930s.
According to Marlon Coffman, the dwelling first became a bar in the 1970s and its owner was Bud Crenshaw. At one point it was named the Cheyenne Social Club during that period. According to Marlon Coffman, the structure has been in White Oaks since 1898. First it was an attorney’s office and then an assay office for the gold, silver and copper, which was being mined in the area and for which a tent city grew to a thriving town during its heyday.
PARANORMAL ACCOUNTS: “There have been multiple strange sightings by some locals around here,” he said. “Two visitors stepped out back of the saloon and saw orbs or lights floating down the ravine between the saloon and the old school house some 200-plus yards away. A few minutes later, when they came back into the saloon they reported what they saw in a matter-of-fact manner.” Visitors from Capitan and Lincoln have claimed to Coffman that they had seen the lights from where they lived through the mountains. Coffman also reported, “Recently, the owner of the “Brown Building,” a stone’s throw to the west (towards Carrizozo), passed away. Before doing so he had been doing remodeling and repair work on the structure. Workers in the building told the owner of objects being ‘mysteriously moved’ without explanation. A previous team of paranormal investigators caught a woman’s voice on a recorder in the rustic back room. It said, ‘This is my bedroom.’ I heard the recording.”
Coffman’s wife Teresa also added to the mystery with other reports.
“Betty, the wife of former owner Grady Stewart, was cleaning up the bar one night with another bartender and closing up,” Teresa Coffman recounted. “They were the only two beings in the building - but not for long. They saw something move past the window. The door came open and they saw a man in a short-brimmed hat and overcoat standing there. Betty said to the figure, ‘Can I help you?’ Her co-worker said, ‘Don’t talk to it!’ The presence walked in front of the potbellied stove and stopped. He looked over at them and disintegrated before their very eyes.” Teresa claims to have seen a strange, unexplained light in the Cedarvale cemetery herself, among some other strange experience. One evening, about four months ago, while in the bar area, by the stove, Teresa was having a conversation with a patron when she suddenly felt a firm tap on her left shoulder. She thought it was her husband and as she turned she said, “Marlon, don’t interrupt me!”
By the time she had turned completely around she found there was nothing there. The customer she had been talking to - Mark Curtis Payne - said to her, “Well, you just had your first encounter.” Teresa believes that people really believe what they claim to have seen.”They were genuine and adamant,” she explained. Reportedly, an apparition of a blonde-headed little girl has been seen inside and outside the white Victorian house, behind and to the right of the old school house, which was built in the 1890s by Benjamin Gumm, who owned lumber mills. As for the schoolhouse, well, lights have claimed to have been seen moving across the row of five windows on the second floor. But that’s nearly impossible as walls inside the building separate the rooms.
It was reported by Ross and Beth Barrett, who were invited to the investigation that night by Lincoln County Paranormal, that they had picked up some interesting audio bits. Their Zoom instrument picked up what could sound like a mine tool - a pick for instance - striking rock? The EVP, at about 1 a.m. recorded a feint voice, which Beth thinks, could sound like the word “demonic.” Being a good investigator though, she can’t be sure if someone nearby was whispering or was it really a residual sound from the past from a being not actually trying to communicate - a loop in time? Both teams had a hard time conducting a truly scientific investigation that night, due to the surrounding human distractions; however, on the flip side of that, it seemed that our instruments, such as our EMF and K2 meters, went off more often while the saloon patrons were present and active; and when they finally all left, our equipment seemed to go quiet. LCP plans to conduct further investigations at the saloon in the future, to experiment more with our equipment and the environment, to confirm and compare what we have captured there on our first visit.

-About the Place-
Built in 1898 with bricks shipped in from St. Louis Missouri, the No Scum Allowed Saloon was originally built as an attorney’s office for the gold miners; then it became an SA office, and then a few other things (we didnt get specifics) before it became a saloon in the 1970’s. The original building was added on to a few times; in the 1980’s the owners did some property exchanging with the people who owned the lot next door, so they could further expand the outside of the saloon, where they now have a covered deck and a stage, etc.
General history of White Oaks:
White Oaks was a boom town as a direct result of the gold and coal found in the surrounding mountains. The dramatic rise from a tent-city to a bustling, thriving, territorial New Mexican town of 2,500 almost overnight is a prime indication of man’s attraction to gold. It was the second biggest city in the NM territory in its hay-day. The fact that White Oaks was located in the middle of nowhere did not prevent hordes of prospectors, businessmen, and an occasional outlaw from making his way into the area that became the richest in New Mexico. All told, the mines of White Oaks yielded more pure gold than any other in the United States. Still, this could not prevent the eventual “petering out” of the gold supply, which, coupled with the lack of a railroad spur, spelled doom for White Oaks in the 1940’s. These facts alone drove the inhabitants from the town they had created and loved, but they never erased their memories, a fact that makes White Oaks remain alive in the memories of many to this day.
-Investigation Summery and Personal Experiences-
We had several equipment freak outs we could not explain, that have never happened to us before. Our K2 meters were constantly going off, the whole time we were there. we had 2 K2 meters set up, and they would spike in sync; when the jute box would be played, it almost seemed like they would light up to the music. it didnt matter how far apart we placed them; there were also times one would go off, and the other did not; they would start and stop without being moved, and would go off in different patterns. Very strange, especially since not very much in the bar would set it off, only when we would hold the k2 right next to some of the electric outlets. Another thing our k2’s are not supposed to do, is while spiking to red, the first green light should not go off; this happened to both k2 meters at different times. None of those things have ever happened to them before. One of our EMF detectors kept tripping to “danger” while sitting on the table, and would not go off; while strangely a different EMF detector next to it never went off once. We had various battery drains; our spy tracker could not stay on the right channel, even if we held the controls right next to it, it would not go. We had more than one device turn off or freeze, and once turned back on the batteries and settings were fine. We’ve never had this much equipment freak out on us before! We also got to try out several new phone apps, such as phone ovilus. We got many relevant words spoken to us, in response to our questions and/or the activities going on. We captured several names which we are working on confirming. We were told that about 6 months ago a separate team of ghost hunters from El Paso investigated the saloon, and captured a clear EVP of a woman, which said “this is my bedroom”. We were told they confirmed that a woman had occupied the room at one point in time, but are not sure on a last name or exactly when. We also heard first hand accounts of a number of local ghost sightings and experiences, a couple from (the owner->) Marlon’s wife, Teresa, all of which we will type up and share in a coming post. So far we’ve got several good EVP’s, and 3 good pictures; we still have some audio left to go through, and some video. An article will be printed in Vamanos (fri. feb. 8th i think!) Keep an eye out for us!

A shopkeeper named Johan Gregor owned a small store. For the sake of many of the patrons of the town, he often kept his store open late into the night.
In the depths of the night he had all sorts of strange customers come by, but few were as odd as one he had on a night in 1875.
>
> It was near to midnight. There were no other patrons in the store. Johan was barely awake, waiting for his help to arrive so that he could go home to be with his wife. She had been complaining of sickness recently and he wanted to be with her as much as possible. In those days, the slightest illness could prove fatal and he didn’t want to be out of her presence.
>
> He was busy cleaning the gathering cobwebs out of a corner of the store when he happened to glance back. A woman in grey veils was standing at the cash register, not saying a word. Her thin grey veils covered almost all ofher, save for her nose and lips. Her skin was a strickened pale, and for a moment Johan feared that she had a sort of disease or illness that he might fear.
>
> Putting a cloth to his nose and lips, he returned to the front. The lady in grey said nothing, but merely pointed to a bottle of milk. Johan hesitated, not knowing what to make of her. Up close, her features were more ominous. She was exceedingly thin, and the paleness of her skin showed through almost to bone. She said nothing, merely pointed again to a bottle of milk.
>
Johan felt afraid - and he did not know why. Perhaps she was ill, yes. But he was afraid of her for reasons more than that. He did not know why. He was a large man. Nothing in her poise or her look would give any man any fear.
> But Johan could say nothing to her. He handed her the bottle of milk and she quickly walked out without saying a word or even offering to pay. Johan rubbed sweat from his brow and let the matter rest.
>
> He was not to wait long. The next night, the woman in grey returned, just after midnight. Once again she pointed to a bottle of milk. Again Johan gave it to her without asking for payment.
>
That night, he couldn’t sleep. He had nightmares of the woman in grey. He lay awake fearing that she would come to his home and had dreams of her standing at the foot of his bed. His wife had grown better and seemed to be in improving health, but she could tell that her husband’s stress was rising. He would not talk about it, but instead she decided to keep him company at the store, and he readily agreed.
>
> That night she stayed with him, and once again the woman in grey came into the store and pointed at a bottle of milk. Once again Johan gave her the milk. The whole time his wife was so fearful of this woman, who said nothing, that she backed into the corner of the store and did not move until the woman in grey had left.
>
By this time, Johan knew that something strange, perhaps even something very terrible was happening, and resolved to get to the bottom of it. The next night, he made sure that a few of his friends were present in the store at midnight.
>
Ten minutes past the stroke of twelve, the woman in grey entered the store.
She walked to the counter, and pointed at the bottle of milk. Johan thought for a moment of refusing it to her, but something in the very chill that came from her body taught him better. He gave her the milk and she left.
>
This time, however, Johan and his friends followed her. She walked quickly through the town, her feet making no noise on the stones, and Johan and his friends were hard pressed to keep up. She wandered down alley ways and side streets, but before long it became clear to all of them where she was leading them.
>
They were quickly following her to the cemetery.
>
The woman in grey walked quickly through the cemetery, then halted above one particular grave. Then, to Johan and his friend’s astonishment, she simply disappeared. There was to be no sleep that night. The grave was that of a woman and her infant, died of a sickness a few days before. The grave was still fresh.
>
Johan and his friends bribed the groundskeeper to permit them to unearth the grave. The soil was still settling and the digging went fast. The men all laboured with a grim intensity, bent on finding the truth, even though in their own minds, they laboured though the surreal nature of unearthing a strange grave at night to seek a woman who stalked the streets as easily as the living.
>
They opened the grave of the mother and child and looked inside. Two of Johan’s friends fled the scene immediately. There was the mother, a duplicate of the woman in grey that they’d seen in the store, but she was undoubtedly dead. Even as they looked, they saw the child move, weak and ill, but still alive. As Johan reached in to take the baby up, he saw that the casket also contained four empty milk bottles.
