Franklin Castle (also known as the Hannes Tiedemann House) is a historical house located in Cleveland, Ohio built in 1865 for German immigrant Hannes Tiedemann. Hannes was an investment banker and grocer and known throughout the neighborhood as a loud and rude man. It was a longstanding rumor he abused his family and ran a strict home.

Not long after it’s construction, the home was plagued with misfortune. In 1881, Tiedemann’s daughter Emma died from complications due to diabetes. This was the official cause of death though it has long been rumored Emma was found hanging from the rafters of the attic. A week after Emma died, Tiedemann’s elderly mother died.

On the Gorham Campus of the University of Southern Maine sits the Robie-Andrews Dormitory. The university was established in the late 19th century, originally as an all-girls college. The Gorham campus as a whole has experienced a wide variety of paranormal events and strange occurrences. Students have reported cold spots or rooms that remain oddly cool in several locations, as well as lights, TV’s and radios flickering on and off and clocks resetting before their eyes. Most of these events are harmless annoyances to USM students.

The Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo (also Catacombe dei Cappuccini or Catacombs of the Capuchins) are burial catacombs in Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy. Today they provide a somewhat macabre tourist attraction as well as an extraordinary historical recordPalermo’s Capuchin monastery outgrew its original cemetery in the 16th century and monks began to excavate crypts below it. In 1599 they mummified one of their number, recently-dead brother Silvestro of Gubbio, and placed him into the catacombs.

The bodies were dehydrated on the racks of ceramic pipes in the catacombs and sometimes later washed with vinegar. Some of the bodies were embalmed and others enclosed in sealed glass cabinets. Monks were preserved with their everyday clothing and sometimes with ropes they had worn as a penance.

Originally the catacombs were intended only for the dead friars. However, in the following centuries it became a status symbol to be entombed into the Capuchin catacombs. In their wills, local luminaries would ask to be preserved in certain clothes, or even to have their clothes changed at regular intervals. Priests wore their clerical vestments, others were clothed according to the contemporary fashion. Relatives would visit to pray for the deceased and also to maintain the body in presentable condition. The catacombs were maintained through the donations of the relatives of the deceased. Each new body was placed in a temporary niche and later placed into a more permanent place. As long as the contributions continued, the body remained in its proper place but when the relatives did not send money any more, the body was put aside on a shelf until they continued to pay.

Richard Talbot, in the year of 1185, was granted the lands by King Henry II. The Talbot family would reside in the castle for nearly 800 years from 1185-1976 aside from a period of 1649-1660 during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. Cromwell had taken the castle and granted it to Miles Corbett, who would be hung after the demise of Cromwell and restored to the Talbots. Currently, the castle is owned by the Irish State after being sold by Rose Talbot in 1975.

The Malahide Castle has seen its fair share of blood and battle. Fourteen members of the family would die due to the Battle of Boyne within one day. Currently, the castle claims to have four (or even five) ghostly inhabitants.

The Legend of the Mothman” explores the strange disturbances, odd sightings, bizarre occurrences and strange eyewitness reports connected to a creature known as the Mothman, first sighted in the Point Pleasant, West Virginia area in the sixties. Strangely, the sightings and disturbances seemed to reach a peak with several area residents sharing the same nightmare of a river disaster. On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge spanning the Ohio River between Point Pleasant and Gallipolis, Ohio collapsed into the frigid water, sending 46 people to their deaths. Many of those who lost their lives had reported (at one time) seeing the Mothman. Perhaps most disturbing, there were no reported sightings after the bridge accident.

The Ghost Pilot

Mrs. Sayer and some friends were visiting the Fleet Air Arm Station at Yelverton, Somerset, England in 1987 when this photo was taken. They thought it would be cute to take a picture of her sitting in the seat of retired helicopter. No one, Mrs. Sayer insists, was sitting next to her in the pilot’s seat… although a figure in a white shirt can clearly be seen sitting there. She told an investigator with the Society for Psychical Research that she remembered feeling rather cold sitting in that seat, even though it was a hot day. Other pictures taken at the same time did not come out.

Haunted Sydney

Maquarie fields train

station

Late at night, when the station is nearly empty, you can always hear the moans and groans of a young
girl in her teens.
Screams would begin and then become much louder. Other people have heard the sounds too. Someone has
once reported that they swear they saw a young girl wearing dancing clothes, covered in what looked like to be blood in her chest area (she was clutching her chest).

She lurks around the station moaning and groaning. She also sits in the middle of the station, and just
stares and cries. No one has reported any violence/harm done by the ghost

castlereagh cemetery - sarah’s grave

This Historic Cemetary used to be 46 Acres but now down to 2 Acres left.

There are many stories about this cemetery Sarah Simpson’s Grave is actually located towards the back of the Cemetery, which is now fenced off. (2011)
She was said to have been attacked and murdered by a group of men who left her to die.
There have been stories of a man that lives next to the cemetery who releases his dogs upon you and also fires his shotgun towards you.
Who knows if this story is true or not dare to find out for yourself.
The white figure has been seen drifting around the cemetery also extra foot steps that aren’t your own following you.
There is also a photo of graves and 4 white figures have been seen there.

The cemetery is pitch black at night, making it a very very haunting experience indeed.
Although we have heard this story actually originated in another cemetery nearby and this is not the Sarah they speak of.
Perhaps the Urban Legends are not true?
Have they been twisted through time?
Please feel free to share your stories with us.

Also known is a game with the young ones, where they tie different coloured Ribbons to trees through out the Cemetery, When its pitch black, with either no torch or a small torch, the person who gets the ribbon closest to Sarah’s Grave wins, or is at least the bravest…… if they make it out at all that is.

St Thomas - Mulgoa

This Historic church has an urban legend story of when you drive
around the church your head lights turn off, and if you continue to drive again your car will stall.

There are also 2 twin ghost boys, who were killed when their friends left them after a prank went wrong
with fire, they burnt to death.
They do not like Fire at all, and get rather angry when around it.
There are Spirits there protecting the land so be warned.
The Cox family are here and will show themselves when they want to.

Mortuary station - chippindale

The Mortuary Station was opened on 29th June 1869. The station was built to facilitate the transport of the human remains from the Devonshire Street Cemetery to the new necropolis located at Rockwood. The
station was also known as Regent Street Necropolis Receiving Station and the Mortuary Station. This station was built in conjunction with the Receiving House at Rookwood Cemetery.
Both of the stations were designed by architect James Barnet using elements inspired from 13th century gothic style. The sculptors, Thomas Ducket and Henry Apperly created the sculptures for both stations. These included angels, cherubs, and gargoyles.
From 14th March 1938 the station found a new use as a platform for horses and dogs. From February 1950 it was used as a platform for parcels.
Very eerie place to be around at night, Orbs and figures have been photographed.

Maitland Gaol - Australia’s most haunted gaol

During the 154 years the maximum security gaol was in use, it housed murderers, rapists, serial killers, armed robbers, escape artists and petty criminals. A total of 16 executions took place there, the last in 1897, and countless murders and suicides have been recorded.
The bodies of those executed were buried beneath the courtyard. Only 11 prisoners ever managed to escape the walls of Maitland Gaol, all of which were recaptured.

The gaol was home to many infamous inmates, criminals like serial killer Ivan Milat, convicted drug trafficker George Savvas, armed robber and escape artist Darcy Dugan, underworld identity Jack Chow Hayes and career criminal Edward James “Jockey” Smith. The Anita Cobby, Leigh Lee and Janine Balding murderers, Ebony Simpson’s killer and David Eastman, who was responsible for shooting Assistant Commissioner Colin Winchester dead outside his ACT home in 1989, have also served time there. Notorious convicted murderer George Ward, just one of the many hanged within the gaol, met his fate on October 20, 1848 before a crowd of several hundred people.

In January 1998 the gaol was finally closed, deemed unsuitable to house inmates due to the poor conditions. Security was also a concern, as it did not meet community expectations. When you see just how close the gaol is to the civilian housing you’ll understand.

Maitland Gaol is a maze of buildings, each with it’s own brutal history and stories of resident ghosts.

Summerwind, formerly known as Lamont Mansion, is a ruined mansion on the shores of West Bay Lake in Vilas County, Wisconsin. It is reputed to be one of the most haunted locations in the state. As a result of abandonment, the elements, and fire, little of the mansion currently remains standing.

Summerwind was constructed during the early 20th century as a fishing lodge. In 1916 it was purchased by Robert Patterson Lamont, who employed Chicago architects Tallmadge and Watson to substantially remodel the property and convert it into a mansion. The renovations took two years to complete, and led to the near total reconstruction of significant portions of the property.

Lamont remained in Summerwind for approximately 15 years, during which time the maids told Lamont that the mansion was haunted, but he did not believe them as the building was too new. However, he is then reported to have abandoned the property suddenly in the mid-1930s after witnessing an apparition in the mansion’s kitchen. Local legend holds that he and his wife were eating dessert in the kitchen, when the door to the basement started to shake open, revealing the ghostly form of a man. Robert Lamont was reported to have taken one look at the ghost, and pulled out a pistol. The ghost swung the door shut and Lamont squeezed off two shots in its direction, before fleeing the residence with his wife.

After remaining vacant for 40 years, the house became the residence of Arnold and Ginger Hinshaw and their four children, who moved in during the summer of 1969. It is from this time onwards that most of the haunting reports originate.

After taking up residence, the Hinshaws reported a number of strange occurrences, ranging from flickering shadows that appeared to move down the hallways and soft voices that stopped when they entered rooms, to unexplained electrical/mechanical problems and sash windows that raised themselves. They also reported seeing the ghost of an unidentified woman who appeared several times in the vicinity of the house’s dining room.

Urban legend holds that after experiencing extended difficulties retaining workmen the Hinshaws decided to renovate the house themselves. During these renovations, Arnold is said to have removed a shoe drawer from a fitted closet and discovered a hidden recess behind it. In that recess Arnold discovered what he at first took to be the remains of an animal. However, because of the cramped entrance, he could not be certain of what he had seen. Later that day, he sent his daughter Mary into the recess to see what the unidentified object really was, only for Mary to discover a human skull and strands of black hair. No report of the find was ever made to the police and the veracity of the legend has never been determined. The body was reported to have vanished when Ginger’s father and brother investigated the recess several years later.

Within six months of moving into Summerwind, Arnold suffered a breakdown. He began to wander the mansion at night and play the Hammond organ in a maddening way, claiming voices in his head ordered him to do so. During this time, Ginger attempted suicide. Arnold was sent for treatment and Ginger moved in with her parents in Granton, Wisconsin. The land, once again, reverted to Mrs. Keefer.

Years later, Ginger’s father, Raymond Bober, announced plans to buy Summerwind and turn it into a restaurant with the help of his wife, Marie, and son, Karl. The Bober’s attempts to renovate the house suffered from many of the same problems as the Hinshaw’s attempt. Bober’s son Karl; who traveled to the house alone in order to arrange estimates and pest control work, also reported a variety of unnerving events including voices and an apparent supernatural reenactment of the alleged 1930s Lamont incident.

At this time, workmen also reported feeling uncomfortable and complained of missing tools and other happenings. One example is that when they attempted to draw blueprints, the dimensions of the house would change, with some rooms producing larger measurements on some days than on others. Photographs taken of the same location, on the same film, were also said to show a single room as several different sizes. even if they were taken seconds apart, or to show furnishings that had been in the room when the Hinshaws had lived there, but which had since been removed.

In June 1988, Summerwind was struck by lightning several times, resulting in a fire that destroyed much of the mansion.Today, only the house’s chimney stacks, foundations, and stone steps remain.

The glass-enclosed funeral monument of Inez Clarke at Chicago’s Graceland Cemetery. 6-year-old Inez Clarke was killed by lightning while on a picnic with her family. Her parents, stunned by the tragic loss, commissioned a life-sized statue of their daughter to be placed over her grave. There are tales of the statue weeping as well as claims of Inez actually moving. It is said, during violent thunderstorms, Inez vanishes from her glass box and roams around the cemetery until the storm is over.

This portrait of “The Brown Lady” ghost is arguably the most famous and well-regarded ghost photograph ever taken. The ghost is thought to be that of Lady Dorothy Townshend, wife of Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount of Raynham, residents of Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England in the early 1700s. It was rumored that Dorothy, before her marriage to Charles, had been the mistress of Lord Wharton. Charles suspected Dorothy of infidelity. Although according to legal records she died and was buried in 1726, it was suspected that the funeral was a sham and that Charles had locked his wife away in a remote corner of the house until her death many years later.

Japanese folklore is truly the stuff of nightmares, as today’s daily monster proves. Just have a look.

Wendigo Psychosis is a mental disorder in which a person intensely craves human flesh and thinks they are turning into a cannibal (despite an abundance of healthy food available). The most common response amongst the aboriginal communities in which wendigo psychosis was most prevalent, was curing attempts by traditional native healers or Western doctors. In the unusual cases when these attempts failed, and the Wendigo sufferer began either to threaten those around them or to act violently or anti-socially, they were then generally executed. While some have denied the existence of this disorder, there are a number of credible eyewitness accounts, both by aboriginal communities and by Westerners, that prove that Wendigo psychosis is a factual historical phenomenon.
